Date Joined Hood: 1040 hours, 20 February 1941 at Rosyth
Biographical Information: Edward entered the Navy in the years after the First World War. His first notable assignment was to the destroyer H.M.S. Worcester from August 1928 to August 1929. He was promoted to Lieutenant whilst serving in the Worcester.

From April 1930 to February 1931, he served aboard the destroyer H.M.S. Active. He attended Gunnery School at H.M.S. Drake, Devonport from October 1933 to January 1934. He attended futher gunnery instruction at H.M.S. Excellent in Portsmouth from May-July 1935.

Edward was assigned as Gunnery Officer of the aircraft carrier H.M.S. Hermes from September 1935 to February 1937. He was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander in June of 1937.

From August 1938 to August 1939, Edward served as Gunnery Officer aboard the cruiser H.M.S. Berwick, plus as the Fleet Gunnery Officer, America and West Indies Station. In February 1941, he was reassigned to H.M.S. Hood. He was killed in action aboard Hood on the morning of 24th May 1941. He was later Mentioned in Despatches for his actions during his final battle.
