Biographical Information: Daniel wwas born on 04 August 1919 in Kilpatrick, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He was one of three children (two sons and a daughter) born to Patrick and Annie McCaughey. Th of Glasgow. The family was originally from Dundalk, Ireland but are believed to have moved to Glasgow, Scotland sometime around Daniel's birth.

Daniel was the husband of Margaret (Peggy) McCaughey, of Glasgow (married in 1939/1940). Together they had one daughter, Margaret, who was born sometime after Hood had sunk. She passed away in 1996.

Daniel was 21 years old at the time of his loss. We have no additional information.
