Biographical Information: Alex was born in Portsley, Banffshire, Scotland on 05 November 1916, the only son of Alexander Innes and Alexina Innes, nee Benzies (born Strichen 1892). His father was killed in action in France in 1916. His mother remarried two years later to William Stott (a widower with children). Together the Stotts had three more children, Thomas, Frances and Elizabeth. Alex . William would serve in the Royal Navy during the First World War and the Merchant Navy in World War Two. Alex followed his footsteps into naval service.
Alex joined the Navy in the early-mid 1930s. He is known to have served aboard H.M.S. Despatch as well as in the Mediterranean at some point before joining Hood. He is believed to have served in Hood as a Seaman Torpedoman.
At some point, Alex married Jean Duff Spence and together they had one son, Brian. Alex was 24 years old at the time of his loss. We have no additional information.
