Biographical Information: Ernest was born on 8 June 1920. He was the only son of Sam and Annie Brown of Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. He was educated locally at the Battye infants school and High Street council school.

Prior to joining the Navy, Ernest was employed at C.W.S. Bootworks. A keen sportsman, he was an accomplished swimmer and member of the C.W.S. football and cricket teams. Eric was highly respected and very popular locally. He was also a server at St Savious Church, Heckmondwike. He was dearly loved and is missed by his family.
